Blogger banned in Turkey

This blog is now inaccessible from Turkey, following a court decision that has blocked access to this and all other sites run using Google’s Blogger tool.

Rather mundanely, it’s to do with people illegally posting football matches (see here for more). A court ordered the ban in response to a copyright complaint by the satellite TV firm Digiturk, who have no doubt made themselves phenomenally popular with the estimated 600,000 Turks who use Blogger.

For more on Turkey’s absurd internet censorship, you can listen to a podcast I did last year on the country’s ban on YouTube (since lifted).

I may consider a shift to WordPress, which obviously attracts people more respectful of copyright laws – or less keen on football.
